Celebrating Beethoven

The Cheltenham Symphony Orchestra welcomes you to this concert in celebration of the 250th anniversary of Beethoven’s birth.

Conductor: David Curtis
Beethoven: Coriolan Overture, Op. 62
Beethoven: Violin concerto in D major, Op. 61
Soloist: Michael Foyle
Beethoven Symphony no. 3 in Eb major, Op. 55 (Eroica)

The CSO is thrilled to welcome back violinist Michael Foyle, for a performance of Beethoven’s only violin concerto – this will be his fourth appearance with the orchestra. Recognised world-wide for his sensitive, intelligent and expressive playing, Michael is the youngest ever professor to be appointed to the Royal Academy of Music in London.

Beethoven’s mighty third symphony (Eroica) provides a fitting end to the celebration. Widely considered as marking a transition point between the classical and romantic eras, this symphony was ground-breaking in its length, form and emotional content.
