About Us
Sophie (Owner & Head Baker) started Once Upon A Tea Room in 2018 and has a unique talent for baking, in particular creating themed afternoon teas, complimented by her degree in Architecture and Design for film and television.

The Beginning
Sophie started her tea room journey in 2014 when she created the former Cheltenham based The Enchanted Tea Room. Starting from scratch she transformed the whole space, decorated, created menus, hosted themed events and baked all the cakes herself. After running this for four years Sophie had created a very popular tea room but due to limitations of the premises / business she decided it was time to move on to a new venture.

The New Tea Room
On the search for a new location Sophie stumbled upon 108 Winchcombe Street, from the first visit she knew the space would make a beautiful and spacious tea room, comfortably accommodating guests along with providing disabled access. After hours of decorating and with help from family and friends the Tea room opened in January 2019. All of our cakes and food are baked / prepared in our dedicated in-house 5* rated commercial kitchen with ingredients sourced locally where possible.
The tea room has become a very popular venue for Baby Showers, hen parties and is known for providing delicious food, cakes, barista coffee, unique themed events and a delightful afternoon tea experience. With the vision that everyone should be able to enjoy afternoon tea, Sophie has created exclusive special teas such as the Gentleman’s Tea for savoury tastes and the Made Without Tea which can cater for Dairy-Free, Vegan, Gluten-Free, Nut Free & Vegetarian diets.
As well an afternoon tea venue, since opening Once Upon A Tea Room has provided tea, coffee and cake to take away (cakaway) as well as home delivery via partners Deliveroo & UberEats. In 2020 this experience was used to create our own home delivery service and along with a new website customers are able to order afternoon tea, biscuits and other treats online.

Our Team
Sophie takes care of the day to day running of the tea room, baking and kitchen with support from four staff members, while her husband Richard helps behind the scenes. Sophie and Richard have two children and this business venture would not be possible without the help of friends, family and dedicated grandparents.
