Hay On Wye

Hay On Wye is a small town with a big reputation. It is much more than books and the Hay Festival. It offers great outdoor activities and adventures in the Wye Valley.

Visit Hay On Wye

One of the gems along the River Wye is Hay On Wye – or Y Gelli Gandryll in the Welsh language. It is a friendly, lively, vibrant and famous the world over for books and the venue of the annual Festival of Literature.

You will find a wonderful range of shops and stores to peruse whilst visiting Hay. There is a vinyl store, clothing boutiques, farm and foodie shops, art galleries and local market that take place on Thursdays.

Towering above the town, is the ruins of Hay Castle a large reminder of the town’s history. Once upon a time, this area was full of battles with various groups trying to gain control over the area. Today the fortified walls are a real sight to see.

Sitting at the top of the breathtaking Brecon Beacons, Hay’s landscape is known as Waterfall Country. Talybont Waterfalls follow a trail of beautiful natural scenery. To reach the falls, you follow a walking trail that is of medium difficulty with lots of variety, you will also venture over a glacial valley ridge before reaching the selection of waterfalls at its heart.

Hay is the ideal base for exploring the northern Black Mountains on foot or cycle.
