Ledbury

Ledbury is a Herefordshire market town that lies east of Hereford, and west of the Malvern Hills. The town has a significant number of timber-framed structures along Church Lane and High Street. Church Lane is also a much-photographed cobbled medieval street which leads into the Parish Church. The timber framed black and white market house was built in 1617 and therefore of great historical interest.

Ledbury was the birthplace of the poet John Masefield who is best known for the children’s novels; The Midnight Folk and The Box of Delights, and the poems The Everlasting Mercy and “Sea-Fever”. It was the home of Elizabeth Barrett Browning and is associated with the Dymock Poets (who were Lascelles Abercrombie, Rupert Brooke, John Drinkwater, Robert Frost, Wilfrid Gibson and Edward Thomas).

One of the most visited attractions near Ledbury is Eastnor Castle which dates back to Georgian times and is home to many family events throughout the year. Discover medieval armour, fine art, tapestries and breathtaking views. Children can explore the grounds including the Knight’s Maze, adventure playground, obstacle course, woodland play area with rope swings and the lakeside and woodlands walks.

Ledbury is home to the family friendly music festival Lakefest and if you love poetry join hundreds for the 10-day long Ledbury Poetry Festival.
