Castle House
Castle House
Castle House Hotel sits beside what remains of the old castle moat, now just a reminder of Hereford’s strategic importance. Hereford Castle held an important position in the 12th and 13th century but once the Edwardian conquest of Wales took place between 1272 and 1284, it lost its strategic importance and fell into ruin.
After the Civil War in the 17th century, the castle was demolished completely and the area landscaped for use by local people. The Castle Green now forms the heart of the city, and the old castle moat is overlooked by our garden.
At Castle House, you’ll find the finest boutique hotel rooms in Hereford, and what sets them apart is their individuality. All 24 rooms and suites have a unique style, each one is individually named after local castles or historical figures, and each one includes those little touches which will make your stay unforgettable.
At Castle House we have two food experiences – our Castle Restaurant overlooking the gardens Hereford’s castle moat, and the more informal Ballingham Bar and Bistro.
Whether you eat à la carte in the Restaurant from head chef, Claire Nicholls’, seasonally-changing menu, or have a light lunch in the Ballingham Bistro, you’ll experience the skill and innovation of Claire’s kitchen team, and the best dining in Hereford.
