Goodrich Castle stands in open countryside above the River Wye, and is one of the finest and best preserved of all English medieval castles. Boasting a fascinating history, spectacular views from the battlements and a delightful tearoom Goodrich Castle promises a great day out for everyone.

Learn about the famous Civil War Siege; see the murder holes built into the castle walls and admire the stunning stained glass window in the 13th century chapel. There is plenty to learn about this fascinating medieval fortress, from its origins in the 11th century through to its dramatic fall in 1646.
Explore the castle exhibition, discover what life was like in a medieval fortress and see Civil War artefacts. From the exhibition you can climb to the castle to see the famous ‘Roaring Meg,’ the only surviving Civil War mortar. There’s also a cache of Civil War cannonballs, found at Goodrich in the 1920s.
Goodrich’s delightful tearoom serves a fine selection of light refreshments made from locally-sourced Herefordshire ingredients. Items on the menu include homemade soup, scones, ploughman’s lunch, cream teas and cakes. A kid’s lunch, which includes a roll, drink, cookie and fruit, is available in the tearoom.
The gift shop is located within the visitor centre which is easily accessible to all. This sells a wide range of English Heritage souvenirs and gifts, including children’s toys, weapons, drinks and jams, as well as castle, medieval and countryside themed products.
