Portland House has a wealth of character and charm plus a fascinating history; the oldest part of the house is Georgian (1676) – not overly large but very spacious to feel relaxed and comfortable, and especially cosy during the autumn and winter months. In the spring/ summer you can relax in the interesting award winning garden or during autumn/winter with a log fire in the large lounge; as well as enjoy the elegant dining room.
Catering can be pre-booked.
The ground floor day room has a sofa bed and futon. A small conservatory attached overlooks the garden and has an access door. Alongside the day room is a bathroom with separate shower/wet area and a toilet.
Dining room can seat 20, plus the kitchen/breakfast room has table seating up to 8 (useful for young families). High chairs available.
Kitchen has good range of cooking facilities. 2 oven Aga – (note: only on during months of October to March). Eye level double electric ovens and grill. 4 ring gas hob, and 2 electric rings. Plus 2 microwaves – one of which is convection and grill. Fridge/freezer and cupboards containing utensils equipment, and china sufficient for catering for 20 people.
The utility contains a dishwasher. The boot room contains a washing machine and tumble dryer.
On the first floor – the majestic Monmouth Suite has an unique king size 4 poster bed as well as a Victorian bathroom complete with large roll top bath.
The spacious Hunter Suite, overlooking farmland, has a king size bed and bunk beds for a family of 4, with a large shower ensuite.
Other attractive ensuite bedrooms include the Magnolia Room (treble); the Doward Room, (Twin or super king); Marstow Room, (double).
On the second floor – The Ross Suite has two adjoining bedrooms to accommodate a family/group of 6, The suite is equipped with TV in each room with DVD as well as traditional past times such as chess and family games and a doll’s house.
With this range of inclusive self catering accommodation Portland House is considered to be one of the best venues for family and groups.
