Riverside Inn Aymestrey

The Riverside Inn Aymestrey is situated deep in the heart of Herefordshire countryside just on the southern edge of the Mortimer Forest, yet still close to Ludlow and Hereford.

Authentic and atmospheric, the 16th century black and white building is surrounded by the natural beauty of the River Lugg valley and is run by Andy Link.

Everything at The Riverside is made and cooked freshly on site; from our garden honey, oat and yogurt soda bread to our lemon verbena ice cream.

Sustainability and ethical sourcing is important to us for our mussels and sea fish. We also score well regarding food miles for British produce and Fair Trade sources for imports. The kitchen garden is an important ingredient in the creation of menus and Andy and his team prepare the ground, sow and reap the seasonal vegetables and fruits.

We have designated “dog tables” in our bar should you wish to bring your four-legged friend to dine with you – please mention this when booking.

We are also able to cater for groups, so should you wish to join us for a special occasion please contact us to discuss your requirements.

The bar and restaurant have been deliberately kept in a traditional style – log fires, candles, hops and oak beams, bricks and stone. There is plenty of space by the river or in the terrace garden to eat when the weather allows and a wander around our kitchen garden is highly encouraged!

Our bar area offers two double-sided wood burning stoves with sofas and soft seating to relax in for a morning coffee or pre-dinner drink.

As well as an interesting wine list, we offer hand-pulled real ales from Cleobury Mortimer and Stoke Lacey and cider from Tenbury Wells and Leominster.

The Riverside at Aymestrey has accommodated guests since 1600 – at that time mainly sheep drovers stopping at the River ford (there wasn’t a bridge in 1600).

We’ve had electricity, WiFi, flat-screen televisions and minibars – and a bridge – put in since then and our recently-refurbished rooms are all individually furnished, some with 400 year old beams embedded in the walls.
