The Country Diary In Song With Broomdasher
Thirty of the most popular traditional folk songs – including Wild Mountain Thyme; Bushes and Briars; The Seeds of Love and If I was a Blackbird – will take you on a journey through the year in a musical version of The Country Diary of an Edwardian Lady
Acclaimed London-based acapella group Broomdasher celebrate Country Diary author Edith Holden’s 150th birthday this year with a tribute show touring picturesque rural churches and raising funds for them.
This 90-minute musical brings the diary nostalgically to life with songs reflecting the farming seasons and holidays like Mayday and Christmas. There’s also a live CD of the show. -and you can join in with choruses too
Edith’s 1906 Country Diary sold seven million copies when it was published in 1977 and is still the all-time Sunday Times Booklist chart topper, holding number one spot for 65 weeks. This 90-minute musical brings it nostalgically to life with songs reflecting the farming seasons and holidays like Mayday and Christmas.
The show is on a national tour and audiences have said “Joyful and uplifting, just what we need after the past 18 months of gloom. A wonderful night out”.
