Grange Court Heritage Days
Find out how food trading standards operated in the past.
Leominster have re-established the historic roles of Ale taster, Flesh taster and Bread weigher to remind people how the town ensured good quality merchandise in its markets and shops.
Grange Court is a seventeenth century market hall and was central to the management of the town’s markets over the centuries. It is now a heritage centre, but contains lots of historical information about its past role.
During the Heritage Open Day period a special display will show more of the detail about the roles of the Ale taster, Flesh taster (formerly fish taster – so what fish did people eat?) and Bread weigher.
On Saturday 14th September the Ale taster, Flesh taster and Bread weigher will be conducting live demonstrations – with audience participation.
Try you hand at telling the good from the bad!
