Hereford Cathedral Heritage Day

Event Details

Hereford Cathedral Heritage Day

To celebrate this year’s theme for Heritage Open Days, we will be showcasing some of the cathedral’s most creative design and craft work, from hidden wooden misericords to the intricate stonework done by our resident stonemasons and the beautiful Victorian Godwin tiled flooring.

Join us on Saturday 9 September for a day of free activities and talks to unwrap all the creativity we have to share at our cathedral. Drop in any time between 10am and 3pm.

Activities include:

  • Join our Cathedral Archivist, Elizabeth Semper O’Keefe for a talk on the decorative Victorian tiles, designed and made locally by William Godwin (1813-1883)
  • Two talks will take place during the day, located in the Retrochoir, at 11.30am and 2pm, lasting 30 minutes each
  • Have a go at our range of family friendly craft activities, and create something to take home
  • Watch the Stonemasons at work in their yard and make your own ball flower from clay
  • Discover the hidden medieval misericords, which are tucked away below the choir stalls, and hear from our team what stories each carving tells
  • Take part in our Creative Cathedral Trail – Discover the hidden creativity in the cathedral, including our spectacular stained glass– look up and look down! The trail will be available from the Welcome Desk throughout the Heritage Open Days fortnight (8 – 17 September)

Why not head to the cathedral cafe for a hot drink and slice of cake as well?
