2021 Herefordshire Walking Festival is nine days – over 50 walks and one beautiful county to explore.
The first Herefordshire Walking Festival was organised in 2002 to signal that the county was open for walking again, after the foot and mouth epidemic in 2001 brought tourism in such a rural county to a halt. Since then, walking has become a pivotal factor in attracting visitors to the county with Herefordshire responding by introducing the Walkers Are Welcome Towns of Ross-on-Wye, Kington, Leominster and Bromyard along with their Walking Festivals and events.
The festival is widely known as ‘the friendly walking festival’. We always receive such positive feedback from people who always feel welcomed, especially if travelling on their own. Herefordshire Ramblers and Disabled Ramblers in ensure our festival is accessible for all.
Herefordshire Walking Festival offers so much variety for walking catering for all levels and interests – from 2 mile to 25 mile walks, on different terrains accommodating all levels of ability including wheelchair friendly and visually impaired. We work together in partnership with Herefordshire Ramblers and Disabled Ramblers in ensure our festival is accessible for all on one walk or another.
What the county lacks in motorways, it more than makes up for in Walking Trails; The Herefordshire Trail, Mortimer Trail, Off’s Dyke, Wye Valley Walk, the Wyche Way, the Three Choirs Way, not to mention the public footpaths that help link them all together!
Herefordshire is fortunate to be surrounded by magnificent scenery – the Wye Valley AONB, The Offas Dyke, Malvern Hills AONB, Brecon Beacons National Park, Mortimer Forest and numerous Nature Reserves dotted all over the county.
