In 2020 self-guided tree walks on the estate surrounding Acton Scott Hall was mapped out by the chairman of the Severn Tree Trust. The walk includes notable trees such as native black poplar, ancient oak and beech, Californian redwoods, a mature Wellingtonia and an elderly hornbeam walk.
Near the house, there is a new arboretum with ornamental specimen trees.
You will be greeted by Francis and Alison Acton, and after a short introduction you will be given your route map and tree list, and left to explore at your own pace. Take time to rest on a bench and listen to the birdsong and enjoy the views.
The walking route is circular (1.5km) and starts and finishes outside Acton Scott Hall where there is free parking.
The walk includes woodland paths and passes through the gardens and shrubbery before returning to the car park. There is a fine ancient mulberry tree near the house.
The Rock Garden (currently being restored) is included in the walk and you have the option of a route with or without steps. Here you will find Japanese angelica, a recently discovered young birch coppice and a Grand fir.
