The Woodsman

With a core field to fork philosophy, The Woodsman offers a traditional approach to contemporary British cooking in comfortable and convivial surroundings. We source our ingredients from the bountiful English countryside; the same lands we’ve hunted and foraged on for thousands of years.

Restaurateur Mike Robinson brings a traditional approach to contemporary British cooking. Our menu is a celebration of our passion for wild food. Marrying the refinement of century old techniques with the very best local ingredients, The Woodsman brings to life the flavours, textures and aromas of the lands that surround us.

Dating back to 1500, our Grade II listed building was used as an Inn between 1655 to 1661 and played host to The Royal Shakespeare Club’s annual dinner from as early as 1824. The next chapter in this buildings rich history takes it back to it’s roots, creating a heritage dining experience where comfort and conviviality are key.

Provenance is at the very heart of everything we do. All our ingredients are sourced ethically, sustainably and, where possible, from within 100 miles of the restaurant. Our huntsman delivers game from our very own estates, whist chefs source the freshest seasonal produce from local farmers, makers, foragers and our very own botanical and herb garden.

Bringing the outdoors in, we cook using the oldest method known to man, wood, charcoal and flame, with primarily oak and elder wood trees to lend a naturally sweet taste to the smoke.

The Feasting room at The Woodsman is an amazing experience.

Seating up to 30 people on a baronial table, the feasting room is a bespoke private dining space like no other. This 500 year old room, with its Elizabethan fireplace and beams is a place to eat stunning, heroic, delicious sharing food.

Suckling pigs, whole roasted wild deer, spit cooked ducks over charcoal, whole wood roasted turbot, all carved in front of guests with panache and style.

We also have a more intimate private dining room, The Warren, which seats up to 10 people.

With our exceptional wine list and a good selection of magnums and other celebratory sized bottles.
