There are many Greek gods and goddesses painted on the famous James Thornhill wall paintings at Hanbury Hall. One of those is Aphrodite, the goddess of love and beauty.
In Greek mythology, her son was believed to be Eros, the Greek god of love. The Romans later adopted this Greek god of love for their own worship, but renamed him…Cupid!
Cupid is often portrayed as a winged cherub, carrying a bow and quiver. In the quiver would be arrows that Cupid could fire to inspire love or passion in his targets.
So this year for February half-term, we are making our own Cupid style quiver and arrows, so you can spread love around, just as cupid would have done.
