Bromsgrove Folk Festival

Bromsgrove Folk Festival at its new location at Avoncroft Museum.

The long established and popular local festival of folk music has found a new home at Avoncroft Museum of Buildings in Bromsgrove.

The Folk Festival organisers are dedicated to the principle of ‘better, not bigger’ and visitors to Avoncroft Museum over this weekend will discover a wide range of demonstrations and activities to immerse yourselves in the stories of ordinary folk whose homes and workplaces are preserved in this 19 acre site.

With an exciting line up and many fringe activities to enjoy.

Artists booked to date:

  • The Jigantics – ‘Cajun-kissed folk rockery ‘ (Friday only)
  • The Lost Notes – ‘part folk with a drag of soul roots, a slug of gospel, or downright country with a thump of jazz around the edges’
  • Colum Sands – ‘a universal appeal for the songs and stories with which he observes the minute and often humorous details of life’
  • Anthony John Clarke – ‘A fine singer songwriter who will take you on a journey from the despair of homelessness through gentle sentimentality to downright hilarious’ (Saturday/Sunday)
  • Dave Gibb – ‘A superb guitarist with a style that is as distinctive as it is effective, a voice that can carry traditional and contemporary songs and a songwriting ability that produces songs ranging from the sublime to the ridiculous’
  • Vicky Swan and Jonny Dyer – ‘two of the most versatile musicians of the folk circuit today’
  • Zulu Tradition – ‘ZULU is a company of genuine young Zulu singers and dancers who deliver a heady mix of African harmonies (traditional songs as well as Afro-Gospel) and high-energy, athletic dance – all traditionally costumed and with drum-rhythms’ (Saturday only)
  • Keith Donnelly – ‘stand-up comic, fall-down comedian, surreal snigger-songwriter, guitar-hero, performance-artist, [tall] story-teller’ (Friday/Saturday)
  • Lauren South – ‘a singer and multi-instrumentalist whose self-penned and traditional songs have gained her a reputation as one of Warwickshire’s finest up and coming folk musicians’
  • Kenny Speirs – ‘a well-known figure on the national and international folk circuit … Kenny has earned a deserved reputation as a sensitive guitarist, singer and arranger’

Things change….sometimes on a daily basis! We are confident that the above artists will be with us for the Festival but watch this space (amongst others) for any last minute changes

….in fact, this list may even be added to ……..
