Witley Court has something for everyone to enjoy.

Romantic ruin
Walk up the sweeping driveway to the spectacular ruins of Witley Court and imagine a bygone era of decadent house parties, balls and concerts.

In the 1890s fashionable society flocked to Witley Court, including one frequent royal visitor, the Prince of Wales, later King Edward VII.

Take in the impressive architecture and see the charred timbers from the disastrous fire which ripped through the court in 1937, destroying one of England’s greatest country houses.

Gardens
Wander through the intricately designed parterres, vibrant flower beds, ornate terraces and pavilions which make up the magnificently landscaped gardens of Witley Court. Today garden lovers can enjoy the beautifully restored East Parterre garden complete with topiary and colourful planting. There is something to enjoy in the garden in every season.

Not to be missed is the spectacular Perseus and Andromeda fountain ‘firing’ as it comes to life – once said to make the noise of an express train. Following a seven month conservation project the fountain has now been fully restored and fires every day from April to the end of October.

Play area
Home to a wide range of flowers and mini beasts, the wooden play area provides a fun and challenging space for adventurous children of all ages.

Inspired by the surrounding wilderness, there’s a tree-house shaped like a seed pod, outdoor musical instruments and even a grass-covered amphitheatre. Braver explorers can tackle the wobbly bridge, scramble nets and slide.

Perfect for family picnics the play area is located near the visitor centre and is a huge hit with visitors of all ages.

Behind the scenes
Pick up a free audio guide and bring Witley to life with stories of past residents.

Re-live the extravagant lifestyle of the Foley and Dudley families who owned this classic example of a great Victorian country house.

Follow in the footsteps of the butler and other servants, and wander through the labyrinth of small rooms and passageways.

Walks
Explore the winding woodland paths of Witley’s vast parkland and wonder at the many different species of trees and shrubs from all over the world. The rhododendron collection is particularly impressive.

Follow the path beside the lake and look out for the rustic Victorian boathouse. If you are lucky you may even catch a glimpse of a great crested grebe fishing for his supper. Just one of the many beautiful birds which make up Witley’s varied wildlife.

Shop
Come and browse heritage-inspired gifts, traditional children’s toys and souvenirs. Sample our wide selection of wines, chutneys and jams or pick up information on our events and other English Heritage properties. Why not also shop online before or after your visit?

Temping treats
Enjoy a selection of light refreshments including hot and cold drinks and snacks from our visitor centre. There is also an independent tearoom serving delicious light lunches and cakes – open daily from April to October (the tearoom is not managed by English Heritage).
