Oswestry Show

Organisers of the Oswestry & District Agricultural Show are looking forward to another great day, when people from far and wide will gather at the Park Hall Showground to celebrate this prestigious event that dates back to 1862. Not only does the Show endorse the best of British agriculture it promotes local businesses and activities, countryside pursuits and provides a varied programme of entertainment for visitors throughout the day.

Spectators to the main ring can enjoy a packed programme including judging of the various horse breeds, parade of vintage vehicles and machinery; inter club young farmer’s competitions, and the highlight being the Devil’s Horseman stunt team -still considered as Europe’s number one stunt team- sponsored by our main sponsor this year Griffiths Tool Hire.

Also for the first time we will be hosting the Scurry Driving event competition, driving a pair of ponies at an amazing speed through a course of ‘gates’ made of cones which have a ball perched on the top, always a crowd pleaser where spectators are encouraged to shout and cheer for their personal favourites!

Elsewhere on the showground Redtail Falconry display team will be making an appearance, set to music and full of participation amazing the crowds with 2 and 3 birds flying at one time, not to be missed.

Judging of cattle & sheep classes takes place throughout the morning concluding with the grand parade of prize winners in the main arena in the afternoon.

The popular Sheep Shearing Competition also makes for exciting viewing when exhibitors race against the clock to remove fleeces in record times. We have once again been invited to be on the Welsh Lamb Shearing Circuit which should make for more exciting competition.

Oswestry Show boasts a strong Horticultural Marquee showing wonderful displays of vegetables and flowers demonstrating gardening at its best, beautiful colourful floral art arrangements, photography, wine and the imaginative children’s classes.

Many breeds of the fur and feather variety can be found in the Small Livestock Building, making for some fascinating viewing. A vital part of the Show is the Women’s Institute and Young Farmers areas, where their members showcase an amazing range of skills and talents and offer fun competitions for the children.

Younger visitors can enjoy a ride on the Oswestry Model Railway and a varied programme of entertainments has been organised for the Village Green, including gymnastics displays, new saints football and Scotty’s Circus workshop sessions

A large number of trade stands are situated around the Showground and also a wide variety of stalls and businesses showcasing and selling their wares in the Craft, Food and Business Marquees.
