Canoe the Wye
Canoe the Wye take you from our Canoe Hire Centre in Symonds Yat West, up river for the start of your Canoe Trip and you paddle (downstream) back to us. Depending on how long you want to Hire a Canoe for will depend on how far upstream from Symonds Yat we will take you. All trips finish back at our Canoe Hire Centre in Symonds Yat, unless requested.
Canoeing activities on the River Wye is suitable for all levels of ability, most of our customers have either never canoed before or have only done it a handful of times, some of our customers will return 3 or 4 times a year building up their confidence and ability and taking on longer and more difficult sections of the Wye. The River Wye is ideal for learning how to Canoe and Kayak as it is relatively narrow and during the summer reasonably shallow in most places.
We cater for family days out, couples looking for an adventure, groups of friends having fun, corporate team building, Hen and Stag parties and even 7 day expedition holidays.
Some of our shorter Canoe Hire Trips include the Half Day and the Three Quarter Day options, the half day hire is about 3 hours of gentle downstream paddling and the three quarter day option is the same distance but you get an extra hour or so to enjoy a picnic lunch en route, these options are ideal for a mini adventure for everyone to enjoy.
Our best value for money trip is the 1 Day trip from Ross on Wye. This quiet section of river tends to be more tranquil and teeming with wildlife. You also get to see the magnificent Goodrich castle from the North side which can only be viewed from the river.
If you are looking for more of a challenge, then perhaps one of our Multiday Trips is what you are looking for? Spend a few days out in the wilderness, canoeing during the day and camping next to the river overnight. You can really get away from the stresses of the real world by cooking your dinner over a campfire and laying out under the stars.
When you arrive at Canoe the Wye Hire Centre you will be issued with a buoyancy aid and paddle and given a dry barrel to keep your personal possessions in.
You will then be given a safety briefing and some basic instructions on how to paddle and steer the boat. We will give you some helpful advice on the route you will be doing, letting you know where the best places are to stop off and what wildlife to look out for en route.
