Gertrude Lawrence was one of Britain’s brightest theatrical stars during the first half of the 20th century, a charismatic stage presence who excelled in sophisticated musical comedy. This play with music tells her story; funny, revealing and full of music – with songs from Music Hall and Variety, to Kurt Weil and Noël Coward.
The 1930s star of musical comedy – Noël Coward wrote Private Lives for her – Gertrude Lawrence tells her story for the first time from her perspective, in her own words. A feisty, strong woman from Clapham, Gertie transcended the class ceiling, forging her stage and screen career into her fifties.
The show celebrates her brilliance, on and off stage, with pacey dialogue that is funny and revealing. Bursting with over 20 songs from London variety and revue to hits by Noël Coward and Kurt Weill
